My name is J.D. Slayton. I'm a deaf artist from the Appalachian Region, USA. Creator of the unique firefly series on canvas. The Firefly Painter. Born and raised in West Virginia, these country roads have always taken me home and given me literally a ton of inspiration for creating cool stuff. I started painting fireflies on canvas in 2005...and the rest is history. I love those little bugs. The way they glow.

You could say...they're my little muses.

To express my heart and soul, that's why I'm here. To share the glow and tip a little light as we go. We all are like fireflies, shining in our own ways every day. You just have to know how to believe in the shine and see the shine and be the shine...because that's exactly what you are...a firefly. Me, too...it's nice :)

I paint. I write. I'm an artist. I create. I make mistakes. I try to learn and become better than I was yesterday. I smile when I can and cry a little, too. I hope to make the most of each day...the same as you. I enjoy taking photos on my phone. I sell original art. I blog. I travel. I love. Some days, I can be a mess and tested to the bone, but some days, I need rest and just wanna stay home. Starving artist is the key of my song, writing words and painting light, that's how my creed be known.
